CAF Imposes $50,000 Fine on Libya, Grants Win to Nigeria’s Super Eagles
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria a 3-0 win and three points in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya.According to Vanguard, the decision, announced on Saturday, follows issues Nigeria’s Super Eagles faced in their return match in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where they won 1-0.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board, led by Ousmane Kane, ruled that the Libya Football Federation violated Article 31 of the AFCON regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of CAF’s Disciplinary Code. As a result, the October 15 match in Benghazi was forfeited by Libya, granting Nigeria a 3-0 victory.The Libyan federation was also fined $50,000, to be paid within 60 days. All other motions related to the case were dismissed.
This ruling strengthens Nigeria’s position in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, bringing them closer to securing a spot in the tournament with two games still left to play, emphasizing the need for strict compliance with CAF’s rules.
