Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Responds to Simon Ekpa’s Allegation of Assisting Biafra in Obtaining a $57.5 Billion Loan

Nigerian economist and Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has responded to claims made by Simon Ekpa, who accused her of aiding Biafra in securing a $57.5 billion loan from the World Bank and IMF.
In a tweet that gained attention, Simon Ekpa expressed gratitude to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, claiming she assisted him in facilitating the loan.Simon Ekpa’s tweet read: “The World Bank and IMF have agreed to provide the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) with a $57.5 billion loan to help establish our government after the Biafra declaration on December 2nd, 2024.
I thank our sister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for her help in securing the loan.”In response, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala addressed the allegation. In a post on her social media page on Thursday, she dismissed the claims as false, stating that no rational person would believe the content of the tweet.
She emphasized that the statement is entirely untrue.On her official X (formerly Twitter) account, she wrote: “I know no sensible person will believe what is said in the outrageous tweet below, but in these challenging times, it’s important to clarify that the statement is false. Once again, I urge those misusing my name to stop!”
