Philip Shaibu Accuses Obaseki of Last-Minute Borrowing and Misuse of Funds: “I Have Proof!”
Direct statement on Friday, Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, raised alarms over alleged attempts by Governor Godwin Obaseki to divert state funds as his term nears its end.
During a press briefing in Benin City, Shaibu claimed to have evidence of financial misconduct, including last-minute bank loans.
To encourage transparency, Shaibu offered a reward of N1 million for information on any misappropriation of government assets.
He expressed concerns about reports of banks approving these late-term loans, warning that such actions could jeopardize the state’s financial health.
Shaibu has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the situation, especially focusing on projects like the Radisson Hotel and suspicious last-minute appointments made by the administration.
He advised banks to avoid providing loans or financial instruments to the governor or other state officials during this period.
Shaibu also highlighted concerns over the use of NGOs as potential fronts for diverting state funds, warning that these actions could endanger Edo State’s financial future.
He distanced himself from any such activities, criticizing the influx of secretive and excessive appointments within the public service as inappropriate.
