Troops Dismantle IPOB/ESN Camp, Free Hostages, and Detain Arms Dealer
Nigerian Army troops recently dismantled terrorist camps, arrested key members, and seized weapons and supplies during their operations.
In a social media statement, the Army mentioned that several Boko Haram fighters, along with their families, have surrendered to authorities.
“These bold operations highlight the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eliminating all threats to national security,” the statement read.
As part of a recent crackdown on terrorist activities in Southeastern Nigeria, the troops raided an IPOB/ESN hideout in the Enugwu Umuonyia community, located in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
During the raid, the terrorists were overpowered and fled, abandoning various weapons and supplies. The troops searched the area, destroyed the hideout, and recovered items including 78 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm ammunition, 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 20 live cartridges, a pump-action gun, a locally made pistol, an AK-56 magazine, and six vehicles.
On October 9, 2024, Nigerian Army forces in Plateau State conducted a targeted stop-and-search operation on the Mangar-Bokkos road, resulting in the arrest of a well-known arms dealer.
The suspect, Mathew Caleb, aged 35, was caught with a homemade revolver rifle, a pistol, 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 2 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a motorcycle. He was en route to Bokkos town to deliver the weapons when the troops intervened. Additionally, two armed motorcycle thieves and a robber were detained in Bokkos Local Government Area, along with a seized homemade pistol, 4 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In another significant operation, 15 exhausted Boko Haram fighters and their families turned themselves in to the Nigerian Army in the Gwoza and Bama Local Government areas of Borno State, dealing a blow to the remnants of the terrorist group.
