Andrew Uchendu: “After Dr. Peter Odili’s 8-Year Tenure, He Never Returned to Meddle in Affairs” – Wike.

Former Senator Andrew Uchendu, who previously represented Rivers East, commented on the ongoing crisis in Rivers State. He claimed that former Governor Dr. Peter Odili never interfered with the administrations of his successors.

Uchendu urged Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to focus on his duties in that role, as assigned by the President.Uchendu stressed the importance of letting each government run independently, free from external pressure or interference.

He also warned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara would likely face challenges if he tried to assert his authority as governor under the powers granted by the 1999 Constitution, suggesting this might lead to a clash with Nyesom Wike.During an interview with Channels TV, Uchendu stated, “After Dr. Peter Odili completed his eight years in office, he did not interfere with the succeeding administrations.

He may have given advice privately when consulted, but he stayed out of public matters. Rotimi Amaechi served his eight years and stepped aside, making room for Nyesom Wike. I believe that if everyone minds their own business, there would be fewer conflicts.

“He added that managing a government comes with its own difficulties, and no matter how cooperative or humble Governor Fubara might be, he is bound to face conflict with Wike while trying to exercise his constitutional powers. Uchendu advised both Wike and Fubara to stick to their respective roles and responsibilities, as defined by the 1999 Constitution, to avoid unnecessary friction.
