Nigeria Tragedy: Kenneth Okonkwo Claims 64 Years of Independence Mark ‘Madness’

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent Nigerian lawyer, has shared his views on the recent boat accident in the Gbajibo community of Mokwa Local Government Area, Niger State. Reports indicate that a wooden boat carrying over three hundred people from the Mundi Local Government Area in Kwara State capsized while en route to Mokwa LGA for the Malud celebration.
This tragic incident has resulted in the deaths of approximately forty-two individuals, with some victims managing to escape while others remain unaccounted for.
In a video statement, Okonkwo attributed the accident to the incompetence and corruption of Nigeria’s political leaders. He characterized the ongoing celebration of the country’s sixty-four years of independence as “madness.”
He stated, “What we are celebrating in this independence is sixty-four years of madness.”
