Police Urge Fubara to Maintain Decorum in Political Pursuits
The Nigeria Police Force has strongly criticized Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his remarks against Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Fubara accused the police of attempting to interfere with election materials in Rivers State during a press conference, where he also used harsh language to describe the police leadership.
The governor vowed to hold the IG accountable for any breakdown of law and order in the state.
In response, police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi released a statement advising Fubara to approach his political pursuits with caution and maintain a level of decency. Adejobi emphasized that the police had acted lawfully and professionally in line with a Federal High Court order that restricted police involvement in the Rivers State local government elections.
He clarified that the police’s presence at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RIEC) office was solely to provide security, following intelligence reports of potential security threats.
The police stressed that Fubara’s accusations were unfounded and that their actions were backed by the Inspector General of Police, as part of a wider effort to ensure the safety of election processes in Rivers State.
