Arne Slot Highlights Liverpool Star After Expressing Discontent Despite Record Victory
Liverpool win 2-0 against Bologna at Anfield, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah. However, manager Arne Slot expressed his dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the team’s performance.
Despite the win, which marked Liverpool’s two consecutive wins in the Champions League—following a 3-1 triumph over AC Milan—Slot stated he couldn’t be “delighted” with the manner of the win, except for Ryan Gravenberch’s performance.
Salah assisted Mac Allister for the opening goal in the 11th minute before scoring a brilliant second goal at the Kop end about 15 minutes from the end. However, Bologna posed challenges, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing goalkeeper Alisson into a spectacular save.
After the match, when asked by TNT Sports if he felt “delighted” with the result, Slot answered negatively. “Not many things to be delighted with,” he said, except for the two goals, particularly praising the second goal for its build-up involving Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. He acknowledged Bologna’s defensive tactics, which were reminiscent of Atalanta’s approach, making it difficult for his team.
Slot’s mood improved when discussing Gravenberch’s performance in midfield. “I was delighted with him,” he said, noting he preferred to wait until after the game to commend players. “Again big performance,” he added, emphasizing Gravenberch’s outstanding display.
With two wins from two matches, Liverpool is in a strong position to qualify for the next round of the Champions League. The team will next face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
