Ijaw Elders Apologize to Wike: “Please Overlook Fubara’s Actions, We’re Sorry for His Behavior”
A group of Ijaw leaders has issued an apology to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, citing the “bad behavior” of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed gratitude to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for his support of the Ijaw people.
Speaking on behalf of the group amidst the ongoing political tensions between Wike and the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), issued an apology for Fubara’s actions. Iyaye emphasized that Wike had paved the way for an Ijaw person to become governor, a historic first for the community, through his backing of Fubara.
Iyaye acknowledged Wike’s contributions to the Ijaw people, stating, “We apologize on behalf of our people for the actions of our son, Governor Fubara. We are truly sorry, as it is not in our nature to repay kindness with wrongdoing. You have done great things for us, and we will continue to express our gratitude.”
He further urged Wike not to distance himself from the Ijaw community due to the current conflict, saying, “Your Excellency, please do not let our son’s actions push you away. Stay with us as our brother and keep us in your thoughts. You made it possible for us to reach the highest seat in Rivers State, and for that, we are thankful.”
