Federal Government Raises Corps Members’ Allowance to ₦77,000
JUST IN FG (Federal Government) has approved a new monthly allowance of ₦77,000 for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, starting in July 2024.
This follows the recent passage of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which raised the minimum wage to ₦70,000.
The increase was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), signed by its Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta, on September 25, 2024. The new allowance is ₦7,000 higher than the revised minimum wage.
Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, noted that the adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to improve corps members’ welfare. NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had earlier pushed for better benefits during discussions with the NSIWC Chairman.
Prior to this change, corps members received a monthly stipend of ₦33,000, based on the former minimum wage. The NYSC leadership expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for this timely increase, which is expected to boost corps members’ morale and enhance their performance during their service year.
