Blaqbonez was part of the multitude of Nigerian artists present at the 66th Grammy Award ceremony. This edition introduced three new categories, notably the Best African Music Performance. Nominees for this esteemed category comprised Asake, Olamide, Davido, Musa Keys, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.

South African musician Tyla earned the award for her hit single Water, showcasing her outstanding musical prowess and making her the recipient of this prestigious honor.

During the electrifying Live red carpet event, Variety snagged an exclusive interview with the incredibly talented Nigerian artist, Blaqbonez. Bursting with enthusiasm, he passionately shared his thoughts on the groundbreaking addition of the new African category at the Grammys. Blaqbonez expressed sheer delight, emphasizing how thrilled he is with this monumental recognition for African music on the global stage. His excitement echoed throughout the interview. He said, “This is the first time African music has a category at the Grammy. So this is definitely one for the books. I am perfectly positioned tonight”.

Despite facing stiff competition, Tyla clinched the award. During Tyla’s acceptance of the Best African Music Performance Award with Water by Fela Anikulapo Kuti playing in the background she said, “I never thought I’d say I won a GRAMMY at 22 years old. Thank you so much to God, my team, my family. Thank you to the recording academy for this category”.
