Reports Indicate Man Utd Has Reached Agreement with Amorim to Become New Manager
Manchester United has reportedly finalized an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to appoint 39-year-old Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, set to begin after the November international break. This follows the recent dismissal of Erik ten Hag, who had managed the club for two and a half years.
According to The Athletic, United’s top officials, including CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth, traveled to Lisbon to complete the deal. Amorim’s move is contingent on him overseeing Sporting’s next three crucial matches, including a significant fixture against Manchester City, before transitioning to Old Trafford. To expedite the process, United has agreed to pay an additional €1 million, with Sporting requesting around €5 million to release key coaching staff members—Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido, and Carlos Fernandes—to join him in England.
Amorim, who guided Sporting to two league titles after nearly two decades without success, has expressed his desire for a smooth departure out of respect for his strong relationship with the club and its fans. United has accepted these conditions, recognizing Amorim’s commitment and Sporting’s need for stability during this important stretch.
As part of the agreement, Amorim will manage Sporting until November 10, including their match against Braga, and will take charge of his first United game on November 24 against Ipswich Town. Meanwhile, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has overseen United’s recent Carabao Cup win against Leicester City.
