Nelson Semedo Set to Leave Wolves, Linked with Manchester United Move

Wolverhampton — Nelson Semedo is set to depart Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer after his contract expired, with Manchester United emerging as a potential destination for the Portuguese defender.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira confirmed Semedo’s decision to move on, stating the 31-year-old right-back informed the club he is ready for a new challenge after five years at Molineux.

“He said to me that maybe it’s time, after five years here, to find another challenge and I understand,” Pereira told Express and Star. “The club respected him and offered a very good contract, but now we must plan for the future.”

Semedo is now a free agent and is attracting interest from top clubs, with reports linking him to Manchester United. His strong relationship with United captain Bruno Fernandes has fueled speculation, especially after Fernandes referred to Semedo as his “partner in crime” on Instagram following Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victory over Spain.

The potential move would follow a summer of significant player departures at Wolves. Matheus Cunha has completed a £62.5 million transfer to Manchester United, and Rayan Ait-Nouri has joined Manchester City for £31 million. Semedo could be the next high-profile exit as Wolves undergo a squad overhaul.

Wolves have signed Fer Lopez and converted Jorgen Strand Larsen’s loan into a permanent deal but are under pressure to reinforce further. Pereira voiced concern about squad depth amid rising competition in the Premier League.

“We need fighters—players who give their all so we can be proud of our performances,” Pereira said.

Semedo, who has 30 caps for Portugal and prior experience with Barcelona, brings Premier League and international pedigree. A move to Old Trafford would offer Manchester United an experienced defensive option and further deepen their Portuguese connection.
