Mikel Arteta Faces Setback in Viktor Gyokeres Transfer Ahead of Arsenal Debut Audition

Arsenal are actively searching for a striker to strengthen their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window, with manager Mikel Arteta keen to address the team’s goal-scoring struggles.
However, their pursuit of Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres has hit a roadblock.
According to reports from El Nacional, both Arsenal and Manchester United made advances to sign the Swedish forward, but Gyokeres rejected the offers, opting to remain with Sporting CP until at least the end of the season. Despite this, Arsenal are reportedly still considering making another move for the prolific striker.
Gyokeres has been in sensational form, netting 24 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season, including five in the Champions League.
Arsenal will face Sporting CP in a Champions League clash on Tuesday, giving Arteta a chance to assess Gyokeres’ quality firsthand.
With Arsenal’s defensive duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes set to face one of Europe’s most in-form strikers, the match will not only test the Gunners’ rearguard but could also showcase what they might be missing in their hunt for a goal-scoring solution.
