“I’d Welcome the Opportunity” – Ghanaian-Born Lawrence Agyekum Discusses Possibility of Representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
In an interesting turn of events, 20-year-old footballer Lawrence Agyekum, who holds dual citizenship in Ghana and Nigeria, has expressed his desire to play for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles.Agyekum has a unique heritage, with his father being Ghanaian and his mother Nigerian, which sets the stage for an exciting decision in his football journey.
“My father is from Ghana, while my mother is Nigerian. I have the option to play for both countries,” Agyekum said in an interview with OwnGoalNigeria. “If the opportunity to represent the Super Eagles arises, I would gladly accept it.”His football experience includes 13 matches with Cercle Brugge, including four appearances in the Europa League while on loan from RB Salzburg.
However, earning a spot on either the Ghanaian national team or Nigeria’s Super Eagles will require significant effort and commitment.Agyekum closely follows the fortunes of both nations, noting their contrasting performances. “Ghana is struggling in the AFCON qualifiers but performing well in the World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria, on the other hand, has the opposite situation,” he commented. As Agyekum considers his future, questions arise: Will he opt to play for Nigeria instead of Ghana? And can he make a significant impact with the Super Eagles?
