DRC Secures Victory Over Egypt in Penalties, Advances to AFCON Quarterfinals
DRC players excited after beating Egypt in an AFCON Round of 16 encounter
The Democratic Republic of Congo broke a 34-minute deadlock following the initial 90 minutes of play and eliminated the Pharaohs of Egypt from the current African Cup of Nations with an 8-7 scoreline.
DRC were the first to score through a strike by Elia Meschack but the Pharaohs equalised in the 46th minute goal via a penalty kick by Mostafa Mohamed. The regular time of the pulsating match ended with a 1-1 score line.
As the game dragged into extra time, none of the teams was able to show supremacy.
The game progressed to the level of penalty shootout. And DRC emerged victorious by beating Egypt 8-7.
DRC will play their quarter final match against Guinea on Friday.
