Asisat Oshoala clinches her sixth Player of the Year award at the CAF Awards.
Asisat Oshoala, the forward for both the Super Falcons and Barcelona, clinched her sixth consecutive title as the top female player on the African continent.
The 29-year beat South African Thembi Kgatlana and Zambia’s Barbara Banda to retain her crown at award ceremony which was held on Monday, December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco. Oshoala was Barcelona’s top scorer last season, scoring 27 goals across all competitions as she helped her club win a domestic double.
The Nigerian international became the first female player to receive the award for highest goalscorer in the Spanish top flight after notching 20 league goals. She was also key in helping Barca retain their Primera Division title and overcome Lyon to lift the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.
Oshoala overtook her Nigerian compatriot, Perpetua Nkwocha by winning the award for the sixth time more than any other person in the history of the competition.
