“You’re Not Alone If You Believe You Took Something; Be Cautious – Nyesom Wike”
During a tense confrontation with protesting land developers in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike expressed strong opposition to what he labeled illegal land grabbing. A video shared by TVC News captured the incident, which was triggered by the developers’ claims of possessing legitimate land documents within the FCT.
Wike rejected their assertions, stating that all land in the FCT is owned by the government.Wike pointed out that even though local councils attempted to sell land, the Supreme Court had ruled that they lacked the authority to do so.
He clarified that the correct process requires councils to submit requests to the FCT for land allocation, and only after this process can they receive Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).
The minister’s irritation was apparent as he addressed one of the protesters, saying, “If you believe you have taken something, you’re not alone. Be cautious because I’m here to speak with you.
” He warned that if individuals continued to disregard the law, he would not hesitate to reclaim the land. Wike emphasized that those who feel aggrieved must pursue legal channels, firmly stating that the government would not permit any form of lawlessness.
