Wike to Presidency: Honour Your Commitments on Infrastructure Projects

During the official launch of the Maitama-Gishiri Bridge and the connecting roads through Katampe, Jahi, and Mabushi in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, delivered a candid message to the presidency, emphasizing the importance of keeping promises—especially those made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the event, which aired on Channels Television, Wike recounted earlier discussions that led to the inclusion of the project in the president’s second-year commissioning schedule. Reflecting on those talks, he revealed his initial doubts and the need for clear assurances from the president’s team.
“I began to have faith in them, and I asked them, ‘Are you certain that Mr. President will give the go-ahead for this project during his second year in office?’” Wike shared. “They said yes. I let you know that it is not a good idea to look for my trouble,” he continued. “Since you have now made a commitment, it is imperative that you honour the commitment.”
Wike’s remarks served both as a reminder and a firm statement on political responsibility. Known for his no-nonsense approach to governance, the FCT Minister continues to press for swift and reliable execution of infrastructure projects under his watch.
Now that the bridge and its access roads are complete, his comments underscore growing public expectations for the Tinubu administration to deliver on its promises—not just in words, but through concrete action. Wike’s message stands out as a call for integrity and accountability at the highest levels of government.
