Why Are The Press Telling Nigerians That Tinubu Removed Fuel Subsidy? – Keyamo asks

The former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has berated a section of the press for claiming that the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, removed fuel subsidy.

Describing the reports as mischievous, the former Minister said the newly sworn-in President simply inherited a regime where there was no provision for subsidy in the 2023 Appropriation Act from June.

Recall that during the President’s inaugural speech at the Eagle Square on May 29th, the Nigerian leader had said fuel subsidy is gone.

Following his announcement, long ques have resurfaced in filling stations across the country as some stations have hiked the pump price of the commodity.

Speaking via Twitter, the former spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the ruling party asked subsidy advocates to convince the public why the Nigerian leader should start on a note of illegality by promising to reintroduce something the law has taken away.

According to him, they should also convince Nigerians that $10billion injected into the economy economy yearly will not jumpstart the economy enough as to create massive jobs and even increase the same minimum wage they complain about.

He said, “They should also convince the Nigerian people why President Tinubu should embark on a present illegality that gulped $10 billion of our scarce or unavailable.
