Umahi To Obi: With Tinubu’s Achievements In The Southeast, It’s Time To Endorse His Re-Election

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that all Southeast governors are now backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that efforts are underway to host a political summit that will formally endorse Tinubu as the preferred presidential candidate from the region ahead of the 2027 elections. This was reported by The Nation Newspaper.

In a recent interview for a special State House documentary commemorating Tinubu’s second year in office, Umahi revealed that political leaders in the Southeast—across party lines—are aligning in support of the President. According to him, this show of unity stems from their confidence in Tinubu’s dedication to equity, national cohesion, and infrastructural development.

A statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, further highlighted Umahi’s remarks, particularly pointing to the significant federal projects currently being executed in the Southeast under Tinubu’s administration.

Umahi cited major road projects such as the Port Harcourt–Enugu, Enugu–Abakaliki, Enugu–Onitsha, and Onitsha–Owerri highways, as well as the long-delayed Second Niger Bridge as proof of the president’s commitment to the region.

“For the first time ever, the Southeast has a Minister of Works, and it’s not just for show. It’s a strategic move. We’re seeing actual projects on the ground,” Umahi said, emphasizing that 30% of the funding for the Second Niger Bridge has already been disbursed by Tinubu’s government.

He also extended a direct appeal to Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, encouraging him to back Tinubu for a second term.

“I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us in supporting Mr. President. The Southeast is happy with him,” Umahi stated.
