Tompolo To Ijaw Nation: “We’re Beyond Trading Words With Wike”

Prominent Niger Delta figure and chairman of a federal pipeline surveillance firm, Chief Government Ekpemupolo—popularly known as Tompolo—has called on the Ijaw people to refrain from reacting to recent remarks made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which many have described as offensive to the Ijaw community.

According to Punch, Tompolo addressed concerns over his silence, with critics accusing him of abandoning the Ijaw struggle. He dismissed the claims, asserting his lifelong dedication to the protection and advancement of the Ijaw cause.

Tompolo also expressed confidence that suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will eventually return to his rightful position, reassuring the Ijaw people that behind-the-scenes efforts are being made to restore peace and resolve tensions between Fubara and Wike through dialogue.

Acknowledging his long-standing relationship with Wike, Tompolo reminded the public that the Ijaw community was instrumental in Wike’s rise to power as Rivers State Governor. Despite current differences, he maintained that peace—not retaliation—remains the best path forward.

“We’ve matured beyond trading words with Wike,” Tompolo said, urging the Ijaw nation not to be provoked. He added, “Silence doesn’t mean betrayal. I remain committed to the Ijaw cause.”

Emphasizing the strength of the Ijaw people, he stated, “If we decide to act, even the heavens will rise in our defense. I have never fought and lost a battle.”

Tompolo concluded by appealing to Wike to soften his stance: “Like I would guide my son firmly without causing more harm, I urge Wike to lower his anger. With discussion, this crisis will be resolved, and Fubara will be reinstated.”
