Tinubu: Early Presidency Was Tough, I Nearly Stopped Watching TV and Reading Newspapers
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted that the early months of his administration were so challenging that he almost withdrew from media consumption altogether. Speaking during a recent visit to Katsina State, Tinubu opened up about the weight of criticism and pressure he faced while navigating Nigeria’s economic turbulence.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the president recalled how the backlash and tough decisions made him consider disconnecting from news coverage entirely. Despite the strain, he remained firm in his choices, emphasizing that decisive leadership often requires standing by tough calls, even under fire.
“When we started, it was challenging, and I almost ran away from watching or reading the newspapers. I got discouraged but stayed put on my decisions, believing that the ability of a leader to take decisions at the right time is the hallmark of leadership,” Tinubu stated.
He reassured Nigerians that the difficult economic reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to yield results. Tinubu expressed optimism about the nation’s future, insisting that the economy is now on a more stable and promising trajectory.
