Tanko Urges Jonathan to Support Peter Obi, Cites Past Loyalty
National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to support Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Daily Politics on Trust TV on August 13, 2025, Tanko referenced a past statement by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who said Obi, then governor of Anambra State, was the only state leader who stood by Jonathan during efforts to remove him from office.
According to Tanko, Obi’s actions at the time demonstrated his ability to build alliances across political divides. He argued that Jonathan should now “repay that gesture” by encouraging support for Obi.
Tanko said Obi’s record of loyalty and political consistency had earned him backing beyond traditional party lines, traits he described as essential for national unity.
His remarks come amid growing political positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential election. While Jonathan has not endorsed any candidate, analysts note his influence remains significant, particularly in the South-South and South-East regions.
