Shehu Sani Responds to Reports of Tinubu Administration’s Plan to Borrow $618M for Fighter Jets

Former Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central, has shared his views on reports that the administration led by Bola Tinubu plans to take a $618 million loan to buy 34 new fighter jets for the Nigerian military. In his response, Sani clarified that he isn’t a defense specialist and doesn’t fully understand the rationale behind borrowing such a large sum to acquire additional jets, especially following former President Buhari’s acquisition of Super Tucano jets.
Senator Sani expressed his concerns in a post on his official X account on Monday morning. He questioned the effectiveness of these fighter jets in combating bandits and terrorists, suggesting that drones might be a better choice against adversaries who often use motorcycles for mobility.
