Shehu Sani Criticizes FG’s Decision to Sack Cotonou University Graduates, Highlights Impact on Families
In a recent statement shared via his official account on X, (formerly Twitter), former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to sack employees who graduated from universities in Benin Republic.
The former senator expressed concern over the impact of the mass dismissal on the affected individuals.
Sani noted that many of those affected had already settled into stable lives, according to him, they had secured jobs, started families, and were raising children and described the decision as one that would cause serious hardships for these individuals and their loved ones.
“Thousands of guys who graduated from the Benin Republic universities, got jobs and married with kids are the ones hardest hit with this mass sacking by the FG. I appeal to the Government to reconsider the sacking by creating an opening for them to make up with a Nigerian degree through the open university system,” Shehu Sani wrote.
In his statement, Sani appealed to the government to reconsider its stance and proposed a solution that would allow the affected workers to meet Nigerian academic standards without losing their livelihoods.
Specifically, he suggested offering them the opportunity to earn Nigerian degrees through the National Open University system.
The Federal Government’s action has brought widespread reactions, critics argue that the decision could disrupt the lives of many workers, while others believe it is necessary to maintain educational and professional standards in Nigeria.
