Senator Karimi Accuses Senator Natasha of Blackmail Over Vehicle Procurement Allegations
Senator Sunday Karimi has accused fellow lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, of blackmail and spreading misinformation regarding the National Assembly’s vehicle procurement process.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Karimi—who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services—stated, “Senator Natasha blackmailed me, she said I collected and distributed used vehicles to senators,” referring to allegations circulating on social media about the distribution of official vehicles to members of the Senate.
Karimi strongly denied the accusations, asserting that all vehicles purchased were brand new and complied fully with the approved specifications and contractual agreements. He claimed that Senator Natasha’s remarks were politically charged and aimed at undermining the credibility of the Senate’s leadership.
“The vehicles were duly approved, inspected, and delivered according to contract terms. No used vehicles were ever considered or distributed,” Karimi emphasized.
As of now, Senator Natasha has not made an official statement addressing Karimi’s allegations. However, individuals close to her insist her concerns were rooted in calls for transparency and accountability in public spending.
The dispute has drawn public attention, with many Nigerians and advocacy groups urging for more openness in the legislature’s financial dealings. In response to the growing scrutiny, the Senate leadership has committed to reviewing the procurement process to ensure due process was followed and to address the concerns raised.
