Segun Showunmi Appeals to Former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose to Join Forces and Rescue the PDP
A former gubernatorial aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State and a current candidate for the party’s national chairmanship, Segun Showunmi, has attracted attention following his visit to former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose in Lagos on Sunday.
The meeting, which took place at Fayose’s construction site in the Ikeja GRA area, was framed as a gesture of unity and a call for collaboration within the PDP.
In a post on his verified Twitter account, Showunmi shared details of his visit, stating, “Yesterday, I visited H. E. Former @GovAyoFayose, where I prostrated to him at his building site in Ikeja GRA to appeal for unity in our quest to safeguard our common heritage. I believe I have the capabilities to lead this party, as my commitment lies in fostering harmony among our members.”
This symbolic gesture emphasized Showunmi’s desire to bridge divides within the PDP as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. His prostration, a traditional sign of respect in Nigerian culture, was likely intended to convey his humility and commitment to the greater good of the party.
According to Vanguard, Showunmi underscored the importance of unity during the visit, asserting that the PDP’s future success depends on the collective strength of its members. He reflected on his long-standing dedication to the party, dating back to 1998.
“We had profound conversations,” Showunmi shared. “I will exert every effort to ensure that my intentions are recognized. Since 1998, I challenge anyone to match my dedication. Like David, I will pray when the situation demands, yet accept the outcome when necessary.”
