Rivers PDP Chair: Defected Lawmakers Can’t Lead Party, Court Saved Us
In an interview with ARISE TV, Robinson Nname-Ewor, the Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, addressed the political crisis surrounding defected lawmakers. He stressed that members who have left the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) can no longer influence or support the PDP’s leadership.
Nname-Ewor highlighted the importance of court intervention in removing individuals with APC affiliations from key positions within the PDP, arguing that their continued involvement would undermine the party’s existence in Rivers State.
“You can’t put something on nothing; these lawmakers have defected from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress,” Nname-Ewor stated. “They are no longer members of PDP, and there’s no way they can throw their weight behind the executive of a party that they are no longer members of. That is the issue we try to correct in this state.”
He further explained that allowing defected lawmakers, such as Martins Amaewhule and others, to remain in leadership roles would effectively destroy the PDP in Rivers State.
“Their loyalty is to the All Progressives Congress. There’s no way they can run or manage the PDP. Their continued stay means the PDP has simply died in Rivers State,” he said. “The court came to our rescue by removing the PDP from the hands of those with sympathy, affiliation, and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress.”
Nname-Ewor emphasized that leadership within the PDP must remain with members who are fully committed to the party’s goals and values, ensuring its survival and effectiveness in Rivers State.
