Rivers Assembly Speaker Says Tinubu Intervened in State Crisis, Claims Fubara Rejected Mediation

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has said that President Bola Tinubu personally intervened in the political and constitutional crisis in Rivers State, but that Governor Siminalayi Fubara declined multiple opportunities to resolve the dispute.

Amaewhule made the disclosure during a recent interview, where he acknowledged the president’s efforts to mediate between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

“We thank Mr. President. He’s a father. Mr. President has done his best. Mr. President has spoken to the governor,” Amaewhule said.

According to the speaker, he was present during meetings in which President Tinubu urged the governor to seek a resolution. “In my presence, Mr. President told the governor, ‘I’m giving you a second chance.’ The governor refused. He gave him another one. The governor refused,” he stated.

Amaewhule questioned how long presidential intervention could continue in the face of what he described as the governor’s refusal to heed repeated appeals.

Governor Fubara has not publicly responded to Amaewhule’s claims as of the time of this report.
