Peter Obi Commends Jigawa’s Safety, Backs Lamido’s Book Project

Peter Obi has shared details of a personal visit to Jigawa State, describing it as a safe and peaceful place. He revealed that it was former governor Sule Lamido who invited him to the state, prompting the journey that left a lasting impression on him.
While speaking at an event organized in honor of Lamido, Obi said: “What I’ve learned from you is quite deep and is one man who made me to travel all the way into Jigawa. When I came to Jigawa to meet him, I said, ‘I’m in the capital.’ He says he’s in his village. I must come to the village.”
Obi recounted how he drove late into the night to meet Lamido at his village, demonstrating his respect for the elder statesman. “And I drove from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at night into the village. And I can say Jigawa is safe,” he affirmed.
He praised the former governor’s decision to publish a book chronicling his public service, saying such efforts are important for education and national growth. “Thank you for trying to enrich us with your book and everything, and it’s good that people write so that we can learn a lot of experience.”
Obi further expressed his support by stating that he had already made a financial contribution toward the book project. “All I can say is that my humble contribution is already in your account ‘cause you gave us the account number and I’ve paid my own. So you will see it there.”
He concluded by pledging to help expand the book’s influence, particularly among young Nigerians. “I will also buy some for the universities… because we need students in school to read about people like you who have walked the journey.”
Obi’s comments not only reflect his admiration for Lamido but also underscore the importance of preserving leadership legacies through written records and encouraging civic engagement among youth.
