“PDP Has Become a Subordinate Under Tinubu’s Administration – Kenneth Okonkwo”

In an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, Kenneth Okonkwo criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He argued that this move is a deliberate effort to weaken the South South region and diminish the influence of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Okonkwo claimed that the appointment aims to reinforce the PDP’s subordinate role and prevent any potential challenges from Wike. He stated that “the PDP is now a servant of servants,” implying that those in key positions are ultimately accountable to the president. He speculated that if Wike had not been appointed, he might have posed a significant challenge to Tinubu’s policies. However, Okonkwo believes Wike’s power is now limited as a result of his role within the government.
According to Okonkwo, this situation reflects a broader strategy of using ministerial roles for political control rather than prioritizing the public’s welfare. He remarked, “The moment the President appointed the FCT Minister, I realized he would take a harsh approach towards the South South in terms of appointments and other issues. Just think about what Wike would have been saying if he were not part of this government.
“He concluded, “The purpose of this appointment is to weaken the PDP. The PDP is now a servant of servants because being a minister means serving the government. Thus, the PDP is serving Wike, while the FCT minister is serving the president.”
