Oshiomhole Criticizes Peter Obi’s Frequent Party Switches: “He’s Defected Too Many Times”

A recent video clip shared by Channels Television on their verified X (formerly Twitter) account has ignited widespread discussion online. In the footage, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Edo State, took aim at Peter Obi’s history of switching political parties.

Speaking during a press briefing on the growing trend of political defections across Nigeria, Oshiomhole called out Obi, suggesting that the former Anambra State governor is in no position to criticize others for changing parties given his own track record.

Oshiomhole remarked that Obi, during his time as governor, was closely associated with the legacy of late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and appeared fully aligned with his political ideology.

“We have my very dear friend, Peter Obi, who governed Anambra for eight years,” Oshiomhole said. “Back then, he was always seen wearing Ojukwu’s emblem.”

He went on to point out that after Obi’s tenure as governor, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and when things didn’t go as planned, he moved on to the Labour Party—highlighting what Oshiomhole described as a pattern of inconsistency. “After his tenure, he moved to the PDP, and when things didn’t work out there, he shifted to Labour Party,” he added.

Oshiomhole’s remarks have sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many debating the legitimacy of Obi’s political journey and the broader issue of party loyalty in Nigerian politics. While some see the comments as a fair critique, others view them as politically motivated.
