Orji Kalu Reveals: “I Made Nnamdi Kanu’s Father a King; He Used to Buy Snuff from Me Before I Became Governor”
During a recent interview with Arise TV, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu shared insights into his longstanding relationship with the late father of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, revealed that before his political career began, he had a business importing snuff from the United States. One of his regular customers
Kalu highlighted that his bond with the Kanu family extended beyond business, noting that he played a key role in helping Nnamdi Kanu’s father attain the traditional title of Eze (chief) in their village. He emphasized that this close relationship was built on mutual respect and trust, long before his political career began.
“Is Nnamdi Kanu my friend? I made his father Eze of their place. His father used to buy snuff from me before I became governor. I used to import Campbell snuff from Kentucky, USA. So his father was my customer, and I am very close to the family,” Kalu said during the interview, affirming the depth of his connection with the Kanus.
Kalu’s comments have drawn reactions, given his previous efforts to mediate between the Nigerian government and Nnamdi Kanu. His remarks shed new light on his personal history with the family and his long-standing efforts to foster peace amid tensions involving the IPOB leader.
