Orji Kalu Hints at 2031 Presidential Ambition, Respects APC’s Support for Tinubu
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North and chairs the Senate Committee on Privatisation, has suggested that while he still holds presidential aspirations, he will not pursue them until after President Bola Tinubu completes a second term.
Speaking to journalists in his hometown of Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu stressed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its current direction. He acknowledged that since the party has backed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, it would be inappropriate for him to push his own ambition at this time.
Kalu expressed optimism about Tinubu’s chances, saying the president is “enjoying the benefits of party supremacy” and deserves the full support of the APC. As a committed party member, he emphasized the importance of standing by the collective decision of the party.
“He will enjoy it, and we’ll elect him President,” Kalu said confidently. He then added, “At God’s own time, if I still have the energy and the resources, after President Tinubu in 2031, who says I can’t contest for the President? It is possible.”
The former Abia State governor made it clear that his political ambition remains alive but will only be reignited after the party’s current roadmap is fulfilled.
