LP Crisis: Julius Abure Forgive Peter Obi and Others for Defaming His Character
Labour Party (LP) Chairman Julius Abure has announced that he has chosen to forgive those he believes tarnished his reputation during the party’s internal leadership disputes.Abure’s remarks came after the Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed his re-election during the Labour Party’s National Convention, held on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State while speaking in Abuja, Abure expressed his gratitude for the court’s ruling and extended an olive branch to his political rivals, including Peter Obi, the party’s former presidential candidate. He called on them to unite and work towards the betterment of the party, emphasizing the need for reconciliation and a fresh start.”With the court’s decision now in place, I offer my forgiveness to those who tried to damage our party’s reputation and my character through slander and blackmail,” Abure said in a public statement.
He cited his Christian faith, saying, “I forgive them, for they knew not what they were doing. But forgiveness requires repentance and making amends.”Abure stressed that the Labour Party could only recover if those who caused the turmoil recognized their wrongdoings and sought to repair the damage.
He urged all members to focus on healing the party, which has been shaken by internal divisions and legal challenges.In the same statement, titled “A New Dawn for Labour Party: Victory, Forgiveness, and Unity,” Abure applauded the judiciary for delivering an impartial verdict and upholding the legitimacy of the convention’s results. He specifically praised Justice Emeka Nwite and others for their integrity and courage in resisting external influences.
“This victory isn’t just mine, it’s a triumph for justice and democracy,” Abure proclaimed, adding that the court’s ruling reinforced the rule of law and solidified his leadership. He also commended Justices Omotosho and C.K. Nwankwo for their earlier rulings that supported the convention’s outcomes.
Looking ahead, Abure reaffirmed his dedication to rebuilding the Labour Party and reconnecting with its grassroots supporters. “In the coming days, our focus will be on strengthening our party’s structures, re-engaging with our base, and uniting our members,” he stated, urging all party members to work together for the future of the party.
