Jonathan, Akufo-Addo, Others Visit Buhari at Nigerian High Commissioner’s Residence in London
London — Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari hosted a group of African leaders and dignitaries at the Nigerian High Commissioner’s residence in London over the weekend, in what was described as an informal diplomatic gathering.
Among those present were former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The event brought together current and former African leaders to discuss issues relating to regional development, diplomacy, and democratic governance.
Sources at the Nigerian High Commission said the meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration among African leaders and reinforce the importance of diplomatic engagement.
Former President Buhari, who has maintained a low public profile since leaving office in 2023, welcomed guests in a cordial atmosphere. Key topics reportedly included peacebuilding, political transitions, and Africa’s role in global affairs.
Goodluck Jonathan, in his capacity as ECOWAS Special Envoy for Mali, briefed attendees on the situation in the Sahel region. President Akufo-Addo also shared insights on leadership and democratic challenges as he nears the end of his term.
The Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, praised the leaders for their dedication to African unity and described the event as a meaningful step toward stronger diplomatic ties.
The gathering concluded with a private dinner and closed-door discussions among the participants.
