“In the Document Tinubu Gave Fubara to Sign, It Was Clear He Had to Agree They Decamped” – Jake Epelle

The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a new turn as civil rights advocate Jake Epelle has come forward with claims about the behind-the-scenes negotiations involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to a report by Daily Post, Epelle revealed that President Bola Tinubu had mediated a peace agreement between the warring factions, and one key condition reportedly required Governor Fubara to acknowledge that the pro-Wike lawmakers had officially decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“In the document Tinubu gave Fubara to sign, it was clear he had to agree they decamped,” Epelle disclosed. “That clause was not just political; it was strategic. It placed the Assembly members outside the legal framework of the PDP, creating a path for reconciliation without constitutional breaches.”
The document, allegedly drafted as a peace pact, was intended to de-escalate the conflict that had been brewing since last year when the state assembly, dominated by Wike loyalists, entered into a power tussle with Governor Fubara.
While neither the Presidency nor the Governor’s office has confirmed the contents of the reported agreement, Epelle’s comments have sparked renewed debate over the legal and political consequences of the move.
Political analysts suggest that if true, the agreement could shift the power dynamics in Rivers State and influence alignments leading up to the 2027 general elections.
