Ichemati Denies Claims Fubara Begged Wike: “He Didn’t Lobby to Become Governor, So He Won’t Beg to Stay”
Ezebunwo Ichemati, the sacked Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, has strongly denied reports that Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara knelt before his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, in a bid to settle their political rift.
As reported by The Nation, rumors had circulated that Governor Fubara met Wike in Abuja, allegedly brokered by two APC governors and a former Southwest leader, where he supposedly pleaded for reinstatement and later traveled abroad to seek the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
However, Ichemati dismissed the narrative as unfounded and politically motivated propaganda. According to him, reconciliation doesn’t require submission or desperation, but mutual understanding and compromise.
He firmly stated: “Someone who did not lie down on the ground to beg or lobby to be governor, cannot also do the same to remain as one.”
Ichemati urged the public to disregard such misleading accounts, adding that Governor Fubara is neither desperate nor weak. He described the governor as being in good spirits and fully focused on the development and stability of Rivers State.
He concluded by reaffirming Fubara’s dedication to peace and progress, stressing that the rumors are baseless and intended to mislead the public.
