Goodluck Jonathan: “If I Had the Chance, I Would Ensure All Nigerians Have What They Need”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has once again shown his compassionate side, saying he wishes he could have done more to ease the suffering of Nigerians. Speaking during an Easter event where he was recognized for his contributions to peace and development, Jonathan reflected on his time in leadership and the limitations that came with it.
“If I have the means, I would have made sure that every Nigerian will have… though it’s not so easy, it’s not possible, it’s difficult for a president to do,” he said, acknowledging the complexities of governance despite the best intentions.
He recalled his initial reluctance to enter national politics, explaining that he originally wanted to focus on transforming his home state before being pulled into the national spotlight.
“That has been my there and that is why I was very reluctant when I was approached to come to the center to be a vice president. I said look, I wanted to ba is a small state, let me see what I can do with this small state, whether I can make significant changes,” Jonathan explained.
Jonathan emphasized that he remains committed to peace and service, which he sees as his life’s calling and a form of devotion.
“I will continue to do my little best until, like as Ble will say, until the last day I will live on earth. I believe that is the only way I can serve God – by serving man,” he stated.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Jonathan expressed deep empathy for those enduring hardship, saying that his personal experiences help him connect with the pain of others.
“I grew up in me and it’s easier to do what is in you than to learn new things. And even in a country or a world filled with crisis, I always feel sad when I see people suffering, true suffering as a child because of my humble background,” he added.
The former president concluded by thanking his supporters and those who continue to recognize his efforts, reaffirming his belief in humility, service, and compassion as guiding values.
