Ganduje Steps Down as APC National Chairman Amid Health and Political Pressures

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has officially resigned from his position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to a report by TVC News on Friday, June 27, 2025. His resignation is said to take effect immediately.

In his letter, the former Governor of Kano State, who held office from 2015 to 2023, cited health reasons for stepping down. Ganduje assumed the role of APC chairman in August 2023, during a period of growing unrest within the party.

His tenure as chairman was marred by internal disagreements and mounting criticism over his handling of party affairs. While Ganduje publicly pointed to health concerns, insiders suggest that political tensions played a major role in his decision.

According to sources within the APC, lingering allegations of financial misconduct and dissatisfaction among top party figures significantly increased the pressure on him to resign. A particularly divisive issue during his leadership was the imposition of steep nomination fees for aspirants in the upcoming FCT area council elections—fees that drew backlash from party hopefuls who felt exploited.

One insider noted that the situation had reached a boiling point. “Several aspirants reportedly opposed the fees, accusing the party of exploiting them financially,” the source said.

Ganduje’s resignation is expected to trigger a leadership shakeup within the APC. While the party has yet to release an official statement, the National Working Committee is likely to name an interim chairman soon, as the party begins restructuring in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

His departure has created a wave of speculation and uncertainty within the APC, with political analysts closely watching for potential shifts in the party’s power dynamics.
