Dino Melaye Explains Umar Dagamum’s Suspension: “We’ve Complied with Court Order as Law-Abiding Citizens”
Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has clarified the suspension of Umar Damagum, the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a post on the social media platform X, Melaye stressed that Damagum has been “suspended, not sacked,” highlighting the party’s commitment to following legal procedures during this period of internal party turmoil.
Melaye’s statement comes as the PDP faces significant political challenges. He explained that the decision to suspend Damagum was made in compliance with a court order, underscoring the party’s respect for the law in the midst of the ongoing crisis.
“We have not sacked Damagum but suspended him in line with the court’s directive. The PDP remains a law-abiding party,” Melaye said, emphasizing their intention to follow legal protocols. The suspension comes amid internal conflicts that have sparked tensions within different factions of the PDP.
Melaye expressed optimism that the suspension would help resolve these internal issues. “This suspension will contribute to resolving the crisis in our party,” he said, conveying hope for future unity within the party.
The situation is further complicated by a ruling from the Abuja Federal High Court, which has issued an order preventing the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from appointing anyone else as national chairman.
The court ruled that Damagum must remain in his position until the party’s national convention, set for December next year.
