Dan Ulasi: The Conflict Between Chris Ngige and Chris Uba in Anambra Mirrors the Situation in Rivers

Prominent PDP leader, Chief Dan Ulasi, dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara lacks independence in his leadership.Ulasi argued that Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, backed Fubara’s rise to power due to personal political interests, not merit.
He questioned whether Fubara earned the governorship or simply benefited from Wike’s political maneuvering.Ulasi recalled advising Fubara to resist the negative influences that often come with being in power.Speaking with AIT, Ulasi shared that he had listened to interviews from both Wike and Fubara, finding discrepancies in Wike’s claims that Fubara asked him for money.
Ulasi emphasized that he had firsthand knowledge, having met Wike during Atiku Abubakar’s campaign in the Southeast. He recounted meeting Fubara for the first time when Wike introduced him as his future successor.
Ulasi warned Fubara about the responsibilities that come with leading one of Nigeria’s wealthiest states, reminding him that power reveals a person’s true character.
Ulasi compared the political dynamics in Rivers State to the power struggle between Chris Ngige and Chris Uba in Anambra State. He noted how Wike, like Uba, handpicked Fubara and made numerous promises to those who supported his choice, offering political appointments in exchange for loyalty.
