Aregbesola Vows Independent Victory in 2026 Osun Guber Race: “We Will Contest and We Will Win”

Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has firmly declared that his political movement, the Omoluabi Progressives, will not enter any alliances or coalitions ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election. Speaking during a well-attended reception in Osogbo to mark his 68th birthday, Aregbesola reassured his supporters that his group is fully equipped to run independently—and triumph.
According to Punch, the ex-Minister of Interior dismissed any rumors about forming pacts with other parties or factions. “We are not going to align with anyone or group,” he said confidently. “We will contest and we will win. The election that will follow that of next year.” He emphasized that their strategy is based on growing grassroots support, political experience, and a focused vision for the state.
Aregbesola hinted that by his next birthday in 2026, his faction would be strategically positioned close to power in Abere, home to the Osun State Government Secretariat. He made it clear that the Omoluabi Progressives would stay the course, rejecting compromise in favor of self-reliance and principle.
On a personal note, he also used the event to highlight the often-overlooked importance of appreciating mothers. Reflecting on the significance of birthdays and life achievements, he encouraged attendees to always recognize and honor the sacrifices made by their mothers, particularly during moments of celebration.
As the 2026 elections draw closer, Aregbesola’s bold statement signals the start of what is expected to be an intense and independent campaign by his faction, determined to reclaim influence in Osun politics on its own terms.
