Amaechi at 60: A Golden Fish and Vital Asset to My Administration – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended heartfelt congratulations to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, as he celebrates his 60th birthday.
As reported by Vanguard on Wednesday, May 28, Buhari, through a statement from his former media aide Garba Shehu, praised Amaechi’s dedication and outstanding service, particularly during his time as Minister of Transportation. He acknowledged Amaechi’s significant role in Nigeria’s infrastructure growth, especially the revitalization of the country’s railway system.
Buhari described Amaechi as a “distinguished public servant” who played a pivotal role in the administration’s efforts to modernize the country’s transport network. According to him, Amaechi’s commitment was essential to bridging Nigeria’s infrastructure gaps.
“Amaechi was a crucial partner in our administration’s drive to modernise Nigeria’s infrastructure,” Buhari stated. “He brought energy and dedication to the task of restoring the railway network, which had long been neglected. Through his leadership, the sector witnessed significant progress from the revival of abandoned projects to the successful execution of new ones, transforming them into key transit corridors across the nation.”
Highlighting Amaechi’s legacy, Buhari emphasized the revival of the railway system as a major milestone. He credited Amaechi with breathing new life into a transportation mode that had been in decline for many years.
“The rail system, once a symbol of economic lifeline for many communities, was brought back to life through his work. His tenure saw the introduction of new rolling stock, expansion of passenger and freight routes, and a focus on safety and efficiency, which helped improve mobility for millions of Nigerians,” he noted.
Calling him a “golden fish,” Buhari said Amaechi’s achievements were clearly visible and deeply impactful. He commended the former minister for translating policy into real infrastructure development.
The former president ended his tribute with warm wishes to Amaechi and his family, hoping for continued good health, joy, and fulfillment.
Amaechi, who has now reached the milestone age of 60, has served in various influential roles, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023.
