Akpabio Denies Embarrassing Senator Musa During Senate Plenary

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that he embarrassed Senator Sani Musa during a recent plenary session, describing such reports as entirely untrue and misleading.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday and reported by Vanguard, Akpabio addressed the allegations circulating on social media and blogs, particularly Linda Ikeji’s Blog. He said, “My attention has been drawn to reports… which falsely suggest that Senator Sani Musa was ‘rubbished’ during a recent Senate plenary for allegedly failing to define the word ‘harmonized.’”
He clarified that there was no such incident at the Senate and explained that the session proceeded according to parliamentary rules. Akpabio said that Senator Abdul Ningi had simply raised a point of order just as Senator Musa was about to speak, and there was no breach of decorum or disrespect involved.
Akpabio also praised Senator Musa for his role as Chairman of the Conference Committee that harmonized the Tax Reform Bills, noting that the success of that effort had been widely recognized by both chambers of the National Assembly and key stakeholders.
Reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to decorum and integrity, Akpabio called on the media to be more responsible in their reporting. “While public engagement is welcome, it is essential that commentary, especially from influential media platforms, is grounded in fact not sensationalism,” he stated.
He concluded by emphasizing his dedication to maintaining the dignity of the Senate and fostering mutual respect among its members. Akpabio urged Nigerians to ignore any narratives designed to create disunity within the legislative body.
