Aisha Yesufu Criticizes Senate President Akpabio as an Irresponsible Elected Official

Nigerian political activist Aisha Yesufu has strongly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, labeling him as the “most irresponsible elected official” in the country for frequently discussing food-related issues.
In her recent public address, Yesufu accused Akpabio of promoting a culture of irresponsibility by failing to hold the executive branch accountable for its actions.
Yesufu condemned Akpabio’s recent remarks encouraging citizens to take advantage of free food during challenging times, calling these comments reflective of his lack of empathy and disconnect from the struggles faced by everyday Nigerians.
“What in heaven’s name is that? Is that really the solution to the hardships people are experiencing?” she asked, underscoring the dire circumstances many families endure while trying to meet basic needs such as food and education. The activist pointed out that while citizens are reaching out for assistance with health issues and school fees, those in power seem unaware of their pain.
Yesufu stated, “People are sending messages about their struggles, yet those in power appear disconnected from their suffering.”Yesufu also criticized Akpabio for his inability to hold the executive branch accountable for its policies, which many believe have exacerbated the economic crisis.
“If Akpabio were a responsible Senate president, he would be calling Tinubu to answer why Nigerians are enduring so much suffering,” she stressed, highlighting the Senate’s essential role in checking executive power.
Additionally, she expressed dissatisfaction with Akpabio’s leadership style, claiming he has lowered the status of the National Assembly and failed to fulfill his duties as a leader. “He operates with a mindset similar to that of a ‘houseboy’ rather than as a high-ranking official,” Yesufu said, reflecting the widespread frustrations many Nigerians harbor towards their leaders.
Yesufu concluded her address by asserting that genuine leadership involves a true commitment to addressing the people’s needs instead of merely offering empty promises amid their struggles.
