ADC Dismisses Criticism, Labels Attacks as Politically Motivated
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed recent criticisms of its leadership, describing them as politically motivated distractions.
According to a Punch report on Sunday, August 10, 2025, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi downplayed internal dissent, particularly over former Senate President David Mark’s interim leadership. “For us, we are not bothered about this. They should continue to entertain themselves,” Abdullahi said, suggesting critics were either seeking financial gain or working for external sponsors.
The ADC is positioning itself as a coalition hub for opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections, with party sources confirming outreach to former President Goodluck Jonathan and ongoing talks amid speculation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s possible defection.
An anonymous party chieftain alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) views Atiku as the main threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and is attempting to create divisions within opposition ranks. Former PDP National Secretary Ibrahim Tsauri also acknowledged the likelihood of the APC seeking to destabilize the ADC’s coalition efforts.
Analysts note that the ADC’s success will depend on managing internal disputes while consolidating support from high-profile political figures to challenge the APC’s dominance.
