Abdulsalami Abubakar Confirms Hospitalization with Late Buhari in London Facility
Abuja — Former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd.), has confirmed that he and the late President Muhammadu Buhari were admitted to the same medical facility in London prior to Buhari’s death.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Abdulsalami corroborated an earlier report by SaharaReporters, stating that both former leaders were receiving treatment at the time.
“Unfortunately, we were in the same hospital together, but I have been discharged,” Abdulsalami said. “So when I heard the news of his passing away, I quickly went there to condole with the family and see what could be done in order to get the corpse ready to be taken home.”
President Buhari’s death at the age of 82 was officially announced on Sunday. Initial plans to transport his remains to Nigeria on Monday were delayed due to logistical challenges.
Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late president, announced that Buhari’s body is now expected to arrive in Katsina by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 15, with burial scheduled for 2:00 PM the same day in Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
“The body of the late President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to arrive in Katsina at 12:00 noon tomorrow, with funeral according to Islamic rites scheduled to take place in his hometown of Daura by 2:00 PM on the same day,” Ahmad posted on X.
