Why Is Nyesom Wike Instructing the IGP on His Actions When He Seems Unaware?
Chief Dan Nwanyanwu has raised serious concerns regarding the influence of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, suggesting an unusual level of control that hints at a potential bargain between them.
Nwanyanwu’s remarks were made during an interview with Symfoni, where he expressed skepticism about the integrity of the police force amid troubling reports concerning the storage of electoral materials.
He alleged that trucks have been prepared to disrupt the electoral process, casting doubt on the claims of ignorance made by the Commissioner of Police regarding these activities. Drawing parallels to military governance, Nwanyanwu stated that the actions observed in the current political climate mirror tendencies typical of military regimes.
He criticized the current administration for not actively opposing military rule in the past, contrasting their actions with those of genuine pro-democracy advocates.
He articulated his concerns by stating, “I have come to the conclusion now that I have a bargain with the federal government; if not, I don’t see how he (Wike) will be directing IG (Egbetokun) on what to do… Will I say he didn’t know about it? The commissioner of police in the state says he doesn’t know about it. This is exactly what you see in a military government.”
Nwanyanwu emphasized that the present administration should be wary of adopting practices reminiscent of military rule, particularly as they do not embody the principles that true pro-democracy advocates fought for in the past.
